Saint David
Our Class has been named after Saint David. Here’s some information about him:
Saint David’s Day is celebrated on the first of March every year. Dewi Sant is the patron saint of Wales and there are many events to celebrate this day throughout Wales! It is traditional for children to wear traditional Welsh clothing and wear daffodil, leek and dragon badges. Dewi Sant was a bishop in Saint Davids, Pembrokeshire, and was a teacher and some say he performed miracles!
Class Artist – Carys Bryn
Carys Bryn was born on a Farm in Pen Llyn in 1965. She has been commissioned for various artistic jobs from designing books to face painting! Carys is a farmer’s daughter, a mother of two and a full time art teacher in Pwllheli. Her work demonstrates speed and spontaneity; the technique is a direct result of diligence and haste. The purpose of the work is enjoyment of colour, mark-making and creating interesting textures. Out of this enjoyment comes work that conveys the way of life around Pen Llyn, from farm animals to road signs.
Class Poet – Mererid Hopwood
Mererid Hopwood is a Welsh poet who became the first woman ever to win the bardic Chair at the National Eisteddfod in 2001. She is now a professor of languages at Univeristy of Wales Trinity Saint David. She has plenty of fun poems for children, as well as a collection of children’s books including; Trysor Mam-gu, Yr Ynys Hud, Dosbarth Miss Prydderch and O’r Môr i Ben y Mynydd.
