Class legend – Dwynwen

Wales’ version of Valentine’s Day is celebrated on the 25th of January and is called ‘Dydd Santes Dwynwen’. According to folklore, Dwynwen lived in the 5th century and was one of king Brychan Brycheiniog’s most beautiful daughters. There are many different versions of the tale but in the most common version, Dwynwen falls in love with Maelon Dafodrill only to discover that her father has arranged for her to marry somebody else.

Topic for the year: Me and my world
