Our class is named after the late Rhodri Morgan – who was Wales’ First Minister between 2000 and 2009. His grandsons and granddaughter are former Ysgol Mynydd Bychan pupils. Click here<\/a> for more information about his life and his work.<\/p>\n

\"\"Our class’ folktale is Gelert. Gelert is a legendary dog associated with the village of Beddgelert (whose name means “Gelert’s Grave”) in Gwynedd , north-west Wales. Here, the dog is alleged to have belonged to Llywelyn, Prince of Gwynedd, a gift from King John of England. In this legend, Llywelyn returns from hunting to find his baby missing, the cradle overturned, and Gelert with blood on his mouth. Believing the dog had killed the child, Llywelyn draws his sword and kills Gelert. After the dog’s death, Llywelyn hears the cries of the baby, unharmed under the cradle, along with a dead wolf which had attacked the child and been killed by Gelert. Llywelyn is overcome with remorse and buries the dog and after that day, he never smiles again.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
